The Bottom Lounge is open for business. Once located near the Belmont red line 'El' stop, the new location at 1375 W. Lake is well over three times the size of it's previous space. The new 'BoLo' has an enourmous front bar, a late night kitchen, a 2,500 sq. ft live music room, and... The Volcano Room, a tiki bar upstairs complete with a rooftop patio facing the beautiful Chicago skyline!
MCD worked on many aspects of the new fun-plex; the logo design, interior and exterior signs, newspaper ads, business cards and interior decor. The direction for the design work was to create a worn-in look that fit the low profile industrial location and sheer size of the venue. Let's not forget the 'El' train roars past this place every ten minutes. What's more Chicago than that!
Using actual photography of flat plastic marquee letters gave the BoLo logo a truly lived-in look. The same theory was applied to the exterior lettering using 17' beveled marquee lettering floated away from the brick and illuminated with floodlights.
The front bar is the main entrance to the Lounge and is apx. 1,500 sq. ft. with a 25' ceiling height. To create a focal point for this large space, MCD designed vintage style neon marquee for the wall that backs the bar. The sign was fabricated from brushed aluminum by The Neon Shop in Chicago and measures, 17 feet in length and 18" in height.

The weekly newspaper ad for the Lounge follows the factory-rustic esthetic; a blue-collar comfort zone that has it all and fun too! |
